Guests at DPMA
Prior to the state visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Japan, the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) welcomed a delegation of representatives of Japanese industry and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in Munich. The delegation, which included representatives of Japanese enterprises operating worldwide, informed themselves, among other things, about current developments at the DPMA.

With a joint symposium on utility model protection, the IP authorities of Germany and China celebrated their 40 years of cooperation. At the event in Munich on 26 March, DPMA President Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer emphasised the importance of cooperation for the relationship between the two countries and the development of intellectual property protection in China.

Information on industrial property rights is important not only for applicants of innovations, trade marks and designs who were born in Germany. People with migrant and refugee backgrounds also launch start-up businesses in Germany and come up with ideas that need protection. In order to reach this target group, the DPMA Information and Service Centre Berlin together with its partners hosted an information day in Berlin on 22 October 2018.

The President of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer, has emphasised the close ties between Japan and Germany in the field of intellectual property. "Both Japan and Germany are at the forefront of technical innovations, especially in the field of automation, digitisation and artificial intelligence", said the DPMA President at the opening of the international symposium "Patent infringement proceedings in Japan and Germany" in Munich. The protection of intellectual property is essential to make this last. Bilateral cooperation with the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) thus is particularly important.
